Michael has been a member of Kiwanis Club of Damansara since 2018. Despite his short tenure, Michael came with a great sense of humour and with speedy Gonzales attitude. In 2019 he was elected as the club’s incoming President. Without much hesitation, he accepted his new position with the club and had spearheaded a number of fundraising and charity programs.
His profession saw him holding a number of management positions over the past years, with responsibilities in managing company’s business units and activities.
Michael is a very approachable, jovial and friendly person, who has no problem in interacting with people from all walks of life. He is philanthropic at heart, and what compels him to join Kiwanis Damansara is his desire to see changes in the life of the poor and afflicted.
Dr. Laurence Lim has been a member at Kiwanis Club of Damansara since xxxx and was very quickly elected as KC Damansara Club President and following that, as division 5 Lieutenant Governor, SLP Chair, Vice Governor of Kiwanis Malaysia and most recently District Governor.
Having a strong background academically and professionally in sales & marketing, operational experiences in health, trading, automotive, life insurance and fashion retail sectors, Dr Laurence now runs a successful business in mentoring CEOs and business owners to manage change, achieve growth and to transform their businesses to world class standard.
Dr Laurence holds a BSc (Hons) from University of Malaya; an MBA from Cranfield Institute of Technology UK and DBA from the University of South Australia. Professionally he has accumulated wide experiences from different industries, holding senior positions in Healthcare Johnson & Johnson; Roche Malaysia), Industrial Equipment Marketing (Hong Leong Equipment) and Consumer Automotive Marketing (SAAB / PORSCHE). His last corporate position, was Chief Operating Officer at Hong Leong Assurance before he rejoined his family business to expand the fashion retail international Thomas Sabo brand. His versatility and wide experiences have enabled him to share the Malaysian Chinese, USA and European management practices in multinationals organizations.
With a passionate transferring of knowledge at heart, he is also a certified in-house facilitator for Dr Steven Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People as well as an in-house lead assessor on quality, which is based on USA Malcolm Baldridge Quality Award.
At Kiwanis, Dr. Laurence hopes to contribute to the development of youth service leadership programs and to help raise funds for charitable social organisations that support underprivileged and challenged children. He was also instrumental in opening up the Myanmar Refugee School at MSO, Cheras together with the club members. The Club has since been supporting the school for 13 years
Katherine has been a member of Kiwanis Club of Damansara (KCD) for 26 years. She joined KCD due to her passion in helping less fortunate families and underprivileged children.
She was a past President of KCD and has been the Public Relations Chair since joining the club. Earlier in her tenure she held the position of Youth Chair where she was very active in the development of the Taylors College and Metropolitan College Key Clubs. At district level, she was also Lieutenant Governor for Division 5 and District Secretary. Katherine currently holds the national position of Public Relations Chair with Kiwanis Malaysia.
Professionally Katherine had been working in the fields of Public Relations and Communications for 30 years and held senior management positions at Genting Malaysia Berhad, Syarikat Prasarana Negara and Hotel Nikko Kuala Lumpur. Her experience includes publicity, communications, social media and marketing in the hospitality, food & beverage, entertainment, retail and transportation sectors. Specific key roles included managing media & social media relations (local and international), crisis management & communications, event management, CSR, customer relationship management and special liaison with local and international government and embassies.
Humble and resourceful, Kim Seng has been instrumental in many KCD fund raising and community service events. He has been a member since 2004 as a Board of Director and the Treasurer looking after KCD’s finances and ensuring KCD is always in good standing. He joined the club after his father-in-law, Mr Chong Kah Thong who is one of the earliest members of KCD, invited him to share his expertise with the club.
Kim Seng holds a Bachelor Degree in Accounting from University of Manchester, United Kingdom and a Master Degree and a string of accreditations namely ACCA, License Auditor, Tax agent, CITM and FPAM. After graduating, he started his own audit firm and has not look back since.
This ambitious young man has eight audit and tax firms in Puchong and is pursuing his interest concurrently in property development and the development of a 90 acres land in Jelebu. He hopes to have a farm and also plant durian and house a bird nest farm there.
During his free time, he is a member of nine other NGOs where he holds positions as Director, Chairman and Treasurer respectively.
Kim Seng hopes to continue to play an important role in KCD in particularly to help the less privileged in their education. He has lent a hand in setting up MSO Refugee Learning centre in Cheras and has helped ease their burden in times of food shortages, besides the many other charity drives he has been involved since joining KCD.
A pioneer member of Kiwanis Club of Damansara, Mak joined KCD nearly 30 years ago in 1991. He currently holds the position of Board of Director and Fund-Raising Chair at KCD.
During his tenure, he has brought much cheer to many children through a number of events he had organized. Some of the events were KL International Motorshow and KL International Buskers Festival at Dataran Merdeka where hundreds of children were invited to attend and homes received funds raised from ticket sales. He had also organized three times the renowned event, Child Aid Malaysia. The event saw the club raising funds for the underprivileged children to continue their musical interest.
His professional background was initially in advertising but in 1986 opportunity knocked on his doors into the exciting world of events. The move saw him heading Cahners Exhibitions Group in Malaysia and subsequently he was appointed the General Manager of Reed Exhibition Companies, Malaysia when Reed acquired Cahners Exhibition Group. He held the position for 10 years before establishing Miller Freeman Malaysia in 1996.
Thanks to him, Miller Freeman Sdn Bhd became the leading exhibition and conference organizer within a year. Miller Freeman Worldwide by then is the largest trade show and conference group in the world after it acquisition of Bleinheim pls.
In 2000, Mak went on to open his own company, Interexpo (M) Sdn Bhd. Here, he was instrumental in organizing the world class, KL International Motorshow. His credentials read a chronicle of some of the most memorable exhibitions and conferences in Malaysia such as MALBEX, Multimedia Asia, KLSE show and Franchise Asia. He is also one of the founding members of the Malaysian Association of Conference and Exhibition organizers and Suppliers (MACEOS) and a past president.
In his rare free time, Mak can be found on the golf course. He is married with 3 kids.
Despite having to spend most of his time overseas, Ben has continued to participate in Kiwanis Club of Damansara (KCD) meetings and events. He has been a member of KCD for 6 years and has acted as KCD’s Auditor since 2018.
Ben has more than 30 years’ experience in international banking. He was the managing director of an investment bank in Singapore and later Principal Director in Asian Development Bank (ADB). His corporate experience includes serving on the boards of financial institutions and corporations in Hong Kong, China, Philippines and Thailand.
Currently, Ben is a banking consultant for ADB and a certified trainer on risk management and corporate credit to practising bankers. He has an MBA from Sheffield University Management School, a BA (Honours) Economics from Birmingham City University, England and a Diploma in Accounting.
His interest in helping the less fortunate, especially children, led him to invite his wife Betty, to join KCD, a club that caught their attention for having been active and having a big heart in helping the marginalised in our society.
Mario joined the Kiwanis Club of Damansara in 1998. He has been a Club Secretary, Club President, Lt. Governor and District Governor. Currently, he serves as District Secretary for the Malaysia District. Among the awards he has received are Distinguished Secretary, Distinguished Club President, Distinguished Lt. Governor, Distinguished District Governor for 2017-2018 and Distinguished District Secretary for 2019-2020. He has been part of the education team that conducts the training programs for Kiwanis lt. governors, presidents, secretaries, and treasurers for the past 20 years. He has also conducted Kiwanis education courses in the Philippines and Indonesia.
Professionally, he is an HR and Performance Management consultant with a career that spans over 30 years. His expertise is in change management, talent development and instructional design. Mario’s work experience includes being a sales trainer, training manager, marketing operations manager, HR Director, post-graduate lecturer and company president.
Presently Mario is a Senior Consultant of ITDWorld and is a certified instructor for the John Maxwell’s Developing the Leader Within You Signature Mega Guru Program. As an accredited international consultant for the United Nations, he has been frequently travelling since 2008 to deliver the Certified Training Professional Program to UN trainers in the peacekeeping missions.
He holds a BSc. Business Management degree , post-graduate education, MA and PhD in Organizational Development. Mario has presented numerous papers at international conferences and has published a book “Five Essential Practices for Mentoring Young Leaders”.
Wei Tang is KCD’s Sponsorship Chair and a Board of Director. He has joined KCD since xxxx and is very passionate about fundraising and community service projects.
Siaw holds an MSc degree in International Banking & Financial studies from University of Southampton, UK and a BSc Honors degree in actuarial mathematics and statistic from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.
He started his career as a risk manager and actuarial consultant at NMG Risk Managers & Actuaries Sdn Bhd. He then joined Gadek Asset Management (later renamed Phileo Asset Management) in 1996. He joined Hong Leong Group Asset Management in 2000 and was later promoted to GM of Investment/Chief Investment officer of Hong Leong Assurance (HLA) in 2002.
Today, Siaw is one of the founders of Opus Asset Management Sdn Bhd and is currently holding the position of MD and Chief Investment Officer.
At Kiwanis Club of Damansara, his interest is to help the less privileged and to pull all his resources together to help where he can and to loop in sponsors to further drive successful campaigns organized by KCD. Besides a very busy schedule at work, Siaw ensures he finds time for charity and he has a weakness for Chow Kuey Teow!
Vincent brings to Kiwanis Club of Damansara valuable experience and knowledge from his involvement with the AIESEC Alumi (International Association of Students in Economics and Business – Malaysia & Asia Pacific Level). He has conducted the AIESEC CARE program, mentoring youths in the alumni chapter. His passion is to see youths grow and become contributors and successful individuals in the community.
Professionally, Vincent possesses strong entrepreneurship with background experiences in procurement, sales & marketing and production in chemicals, PVC and biotech products. As a key partner of businesses he has set up, his expertise is highly focused in the field of chemical trading and distribution (Centre Wet Chemicals), waste treatment (F.O.G Biotech), PVC door manufacturing and distribution (Dulastic Industry and Dulastic Marketing), glove chemicals processing plant (Alpha Nanotech Industries) and Foundry’s Chemicals distribution (Centre West Foundries Supplies).
In his early days after graduating with a BSc (Hons) degree from University Putra Malaysia (UPM), he held a number of positions in industry management.
In his free time, he is an active member and also sits as Dhamma worker of Vipassana meditation, Dhamma Malaya. However busy he may be, Vincent ensures he meditates at least 2 hours daily. Being a member of Kiwanis Club of Damansara, he hopes to contribute his ideas and experience towards fund raising to help underprivileged children.
Maria has been a member for 29 years and major contributor to Kiwanis Club of Damansara and also to Kiwanis at district level. She joined Kiwanis Club of Damansara since 1992 and has not looked backed since.
Besides helping underprivileged children and the community through Kiwanis projects Maria holds the position of Leadership Education & Planning Chair at the Kiwanis Malaysia District since 2000. She has also been the Lieutenant Governor for Kiwanis Malaysia and at Kiwanis Club of Damansara, she has served as Past President and secretary.
Professionally, Maria is the Senior Director at ITD World and is instrumental in driving ITD World towards establishing itself as a Global Leadership Development expert catering to local, regional and global, government and multinational corporations with the biggest number of partnerships with top Mega gurus such as Marshal Goldsmith, John Mattone, William Rothwell, Brian Tracy, Marcia Reynolds, Jack Canfield, John Maxwell and many more to enable clients to learn from the best to be the Best.
